Hello, I'm John Dillon, owner, and sole proprietor of Prairie Valley Woodturning. I started seriously woodturning in 2019 after many years as a hobbyist woodworker. I have always been inspired by the natural beauty of wood and after a few years selling my wood products I also appreciate the creativity of my clients. I believe that every piece of turned-wood, chosen by my clients, should be a reflection of their personality and style. Whether it's a rustic live-edge bowl or a sleek modern candlestick, I work closely with my clients to bring their vision to life.
I am committed to creating wood-turned items that are not only beautiful but, functional or artistic, and sometimes both functional and artistic, and built to last. I use both traditional techniques and modern technology to craft each piece with precision and care. From sourcing local woods to applying the finish, every step of the process is done with the utmost attention to detail.
I believe that the quality of the materials used is just as important as the craftsmanship. That's why I typically work with the highest quality sustainably sourced woods, carefully selecting each piece for its unique character and beauty. I believe that the quality of the materials used is just as important as the craftsmanship. That's why I typically work with the highest quality sustainably sourced woods, carefully selecting each piece for its unique character and beauty. I am grateful to live in Northern Illinois which is full of beautiful native tree species such as Cherry, Walnut (my two favorites) along with Maple, Oak, Ash, Locust and so many more. I also use eco-friendly, food-safe finishes on all utilitarian pieces and prioritize techniques to minimize the impact on the environment.
I stay in constant communication with my customers until the job is done. To get a free quote, or if you have questions or special requests, just drop me a line.
